Further afield - the Wirral peninsular

The Wirral lies between the Dee and the Mersey. Here you can find charming English villages, breathtaking views of North Wales, beaches that stretch for miles, world class golf courses and the famous Mersey ferries that take you into the city of Liverpool.

Also:

The National Waterways museum at Ellesmere Port has a handy, child friendly cafe (literally just a minute from J9 on the M53) which we use quite often on our way to Liverpool or other places on the Wirral. The museum itself is based on a former working canal port with working locks, canal boat rides, restored canal side cottages and barges. Tel: 0151 355 5017.

Ness Botanic Gardens at Neston are beautiful in any season and have a great little cafe. Recommended by J. H. (July 2011) Tel: 0151 353 0123.

Blue Planet Aquarium

Near Cheshire Oaks, M53 J10, tel: 0151 3578804. Make sure that you catch one of the shows where you can watch scuba divers swimming with the sharks.

"We all enjoyed the Blue Planet Aquarium... it is well laid out and very interesting, much better than Sea Life Centres." J. C. from England, July 2011.

"We visited Blue Planet Aquarium twice - my daughter loved it - 6 hours both times!" J. G-C, August 2006.

Spaceport

Seacombe, Wallasey, M53 J1, tel: 0151 3301333.
